In 2020, CALB launched a new 3.2V 100Ah lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery cell. But how does this new model differ from the older CA100 version? In this article, we compare the two across several key aspects.
1. Appearance & Size
Visually, the most obvious difference lies in the casing and form factor.
-
The new L160F100 features a blue aluminum case, whereas the older CA100 has a gray plastic case.
-
The new model is also smaller and significantly lighter, while maintaining the same voltage and capacity—indicating a higher energy density.
2. Model & Terminal Design
-
The older CA100 uses a bolted terminal, allowing easy connection with screws and busbars.
-
The new L160F100 is mainly used in EVs in China and comes with flat terminals, suitable for welding or adding screw adapters.
-
A sub-version, L160F100B, includes an adapter with a screw hole, making installation more flexible. We’ve included photos below for clearer comparison.
3. Cycle Life
Thanks to improved manufacturing processes, the cycle life of the new L160F100 series has increased dramatically:
-
CA100: >2,000 cycles
-
L160F100 / L160F100B: >3,500 cycles
This makes the new model a better choice for long-term usage.
4. Operating Temperature
The L160F100 also has a broader operating temperature range, especially for charging:
-
Charging Temperature:
-
CA100: 0~45°C
-
L160F100: -5~60°C
-
-
Discharging Temperature:
-
CA100: -20~55°C
-
L160F100: -20~60°C
-
This means better performance in both colder and warmer environments.
